IMATS 2012

MG 0002 600x400 IMATS 2012

If you are crazy about make up, I am pretty sure I have seen you somewhere at the IMATS event (International Make-up Artist Trade Show) this year. The event started from 3rd Feb with two masterclasses and a pro only shopping night, followed on by 2 days for general public on the 4th and 5th Feb. This year IMATS was organised at the amazing Alexandra Palace, London with many amazing key note speakers sharing their invaluable knowledge and skills on make up. I finally met Lan Nguyen, one of the excellent speakers/ MUAs whom I have armired for years. She has won honors at the United Kingdom’s National Make-up Award and is trully an inspiration for any young and ambitious make up artist out there.

Last but not least, there are many (too many) great exhibitors with fabulous, amazing, jaw dropping ( I ran out of words to describe) tools and products. I am sure you can not come to IMATS without buying anything, indeed you will end up buying too many things so my only tip is that you need to fill up your wallet before coming to IMATS.

Here are the few photos of the event:

Acne or Breakout? Tips to cure naturally

Hey guys and girls,

m223249912 Acne or Breakout? Tips to cure naturally

I have been so busy that my blog got rusted. But here I am again! Just in case you might not know, I am now an insider of Dermalogica so expecting my review on their products shortly.

I have recently advised alot of my clients on how to care for their skins and what products to choose from. One of the most common sympton that young women face nowaday is acne!!! I will write another post about what products to use, but firstly I want to explain where acne come from and how can you cure acne natually. I think this is way more important than rushing yourself into a skin clinic or department store and ask them to give you some magic. Unfortunately, trust me, there is no magic with acne.

Understanding why you have acne may help you prevent them in a correct way. If you have acne/breackout on your chin area, this is more likely caused by hormones change or bad diet (i.e. too much alcohol, too much spicy food, not enough vegetable, etc). If you have acne on your forhead, your bladder might not function properly or simply caused by eccessive use of hair products (hair spray, hair gel without a good wash can cause real damage to your skin). If you have acne on your side face, you might not believe me, but it may be caused by your mobile phone. If you have acne on your cheeks, you might have lung problem. If you have rosacea all over your face (some people even have pimples all over their neck, ears, scalp, chest, etc), it may caused by stress, anxiety, critical weather (too hot, too cold or suddenly change in temperature), strenuous exercise, heat from sunlight, severe sunburnt, diet (too much alcohol, too much caffein, spicy food, foods high in histamines, etc), wrong type of skincare products or treatment.

A survey by the National Rosacea Society of 1,066 rosacea patients showed which factors affect the most people:

  • Sun exposure 81%
  • Emotional stress 79%
  • Hot weather 75%
  • Wind 57%
  • Heavy exercise 56%
  • Alcohol consumption 52%
  • Hot baths 51%
  • Cold weather 46%
  • Spicy foods 45%
  • Humidity 44%
  • Indoor heat 41%
  • Certain skin-care products 41%
  • Heated beverages 36%
  • Certain cosmetics 27%
  • Medications (specifically stimulants) 15%
  • Medical conditions 15%
  • Certain fruits 13%
  • Marinated meats 10%
  • Certain vegetables 9%
  • Dairy products 8%

Obviously, you can not make your acne go away overnight with some magic cream people always try to sell to you, but with a good skincare products plus your strict skincare discipline, you can always control it. Some of my tips to cure acne naturally:

  • Ensure a right nutritional diet, keep your 5-a-day (vegetable and fruits), reduce the amount of alcohol and cigarette. Drink non-caffeine tea/coffee.
  • If you use make up products, make sure you remove them properly before sleeping. If you have severe acne, try to not use make up or very little make up in a very short period of time.
  • Wash your face at least twice a day followed by a strict skincare regime that your therapist set out for you. You need to be patient as even some of the best acne treatment products out there still need at least 6-8 weeks to show results.
  • Face Protector Suncream of at least 30SPF is a MUST. I can’t stress enough but look at the survey, 81% of acne caused by sun damage. The sun (regardless how strong, even on a rainy day) emits ultraviolet radiation that can trigger rosacea quicker than you think.
  • Keep your hair off your face – If you have long hair or bangs, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils as well, and will contribute to your breakouts. You’ll also want to wash your hair everyday and after workouts.
  • Do not pick or squeeze your blackheads and pimples. I know this temptation is really high but squeezzing your pimples will scratch your skin and increase the sebum production. Plus, when you squeeze, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin. The result is more pimples.
  • Change your pillow case every other day. You may not know but when you sleep, your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil. Thus causing breakouts.

So there you are, some of my simple tips to help you heal your acne naturally. You should notice a difference in about …4 weeks.

Until next time,

MaiStyle

This year’s colour trend is Red.Wearing Red Hair is a Mega Trend. Wearing Red Hair is also a Fashion Statement! Red hair is instantly striking, making you stand out from the crowd. Red hair looks beautiful whether it is copper, mahogany or cherry red. But Ginger is a head-turning shade that encompasses the whole family of reds.

MG 0022 Edit Edit1 548x400 Hairstyle Tip of the Day Change your hair colour!

I am always a fan of redhair. It seems to add a hint of extravagance to the appearance. People said redheads often appear delicate, elf-like and mysterious. Some redheads are the very images of excitement, strength and confidence. Wearing red hair in style can be demanding, and it does call for well-balanced make-up. I will share some make-up tips for red hair very soon (of course when I can find some free time to write).

So what are you waiting for? Join the trend. Go Red!!!

How to stop your eyeliner from smudging?

MG 0022 Edit2 How to stop your eyeliner from smudging?

How many tricks have you applied to stop your eyeliner from smudging? I guess too many! I have alot of clients asking how to stop their eyeliner from smudging. Especially during a hot and humid summer, worses when you have oily skin / oily eye lids, it would be a nightmare going out with racoon eyes all the time.

People recommend to put on primer before make-up, it helps the eyeliner stay, but it does not help with the smudging. I myself had that problem for years, adding to the trouble I have quite oily lids so whatever tips and tricks did not work for me, even with liquid eyeliner! I have tried all the best branded eyeliner, Mac, Dior, Bonjour, Rimmel, to name a few, but one of the best eyeliner I found so far was Revlon ColourStay Eyeliner!!! That is the only liner that did not smudge when applied on it own. Liquid Liner, say Mac Fluid Liner, also help with the smudging but when you want a natural look, liquid liner generally does not give you the right effect.

makeup How to stop your eyeliner from smudging?

So here is my tip if you want a natural eyeliner make up look:

+ Step 1: apply your liner using Kohl pencil, go for brown colour (or light colour) if you want natural day look (black liner is more for evening look). I would recommend Revlon ColourStay Eyeliner or Rimmel Kolh pencil.

+ Step 2: Set your liner with eye shadow in the same colour, using the angle liner brush. If you apply until this step and your eyeliner is still smudging, read on Step 3.

+ Step 3: This is the most important step and it worked for me and my clients all the time! Dip your angle liner brush into clear water, then set your liner (Step 1) + powder (Step 2) with water on top. It work like the top layer of primer to set everything in place! All my brides reported back that their liner stayed the same from morning till night!

Hope you enjoy this tip and let me know the result xx

Make-up tip of the day – PRIMER

59914 114683178590081 100001451974628 110745 619525 n 266x400 Make up tip of the day PRIMERMonday Tip: Always use primer underneath your foundation for a smooth and flawless looking skin. Plus, it helps your make-up stays fresh all day long!

Yes, the fact that primer (think moisturiser!) create a protection layer between your skin and the make-up products, at the same time, it smoothes out your skin, so the makeup goes on smoother and your skin just looks flawless. And since it acts as a primer, it helps the make-up lasts longer. Highly recommend for oily skin due to its mattifying effect! Some products can even minimise fine lines, pores and wrinkles!

There are many primer products on the market, but I would recommend a few products below based on succesfully use on myself and my clients:

+ Supermarket brand (most budgeted option): Barbara Daly Flawless Primer for Tesco. They have proofed the fact that you don’t have to spend loads of cash to look fantastic!!! I have just tested this product and it’s amazing.

+ High street Brand: Max Faxtor Foundation Primer or Rimmel Foundation Primer

+ High end Brand: Mac Prep and Prime (One of the most costly primers on the market but it worth every penny. I have used this on hundreds of my brides and all of them thought this product is fantastic!)
